Little Red

Local photographer, Dorene Sykes needed a model for a project, so she asked me to come over to her home studio with some of my dolls. I brought a basket of possible wee folk and we decided that Little Red Ridinghood would show up the best. She took this sweet picture of me holding her out front. The purpose of the exercise was to literally focus attention on an object in the foreground, with an identifiable, but less clear person in the background. Dorene and I had a lot of fun trying out different poses. I really like that way this one came out, especially the flattering extra “soft focus” effect, since I’m feeling aware of my age ( 57 yesterday).

  1. I like that photo too, Salley! You look beautiful (with a great smile!) and Little Red is a *wonderful* creation. I love the embroidery on her cloak and her rough homespun dress. Hope you had a wonderful birthday!

  2. Belated birthday wishes to you…I like to think of every birthday being a gift you give yourself, and I know we ALL hope you continue to gift yourself for many years to come. <;-) Loving the Red Riding Hood too…she is precious, as are all your little folks. Thanks for sharing…Blessings and good wishes to you!

  3. Happy Birth Week Salley!
I’ve always believed that one day was too little to celebrate a person’s most Honarable Day.
Several years ago, I gave my self and my children a Birth Week. If they are ill or not having a good day then they have the rest of the week to celebrate this most cherrished event…because life little up and downs still happens no matter what day it is.

    To Salley, Our Friend,
Ponder not on upon the fallen leaves, that lay at thy creative feet.. For those have had their moments in the sun.
Focus eyes upon the tiny buds that lay high atop the tree, ready,
    Oh! what adventures awaits.
To view them, takes blessed wings.
We all wish you a week filled with Love, Laughter and Good Health
    GOD Bless,
    Rebecca

PS: Loving the Red..love the clever design of the cloak.

  4. Happy Birthday! Apparently, we share a birth day – April 14th? – but alas, not the same year. Now I get to hum “When I’m 64…” and think 57 is quite young.

P.S. My spouse and I visited the RISD museum, alumni shop and campus stores last summer when we sailed from Jekyll Island on the Georgia coast to Narragansett Bay and spent a week at the most wonderful “working marina” in Providence. I loved RISD and had fantasies of being 18 and getting to choose a college all over again. (I graduated from Wheaton in Norton, MA). I took a picture of the 17+ kinds of Mod Podge in the store to send to a grandchild – also loved the entire wall of brushes. We left the boat in Havre de Grace, MD last fall and will soon set sail for the summer. Narrangansett Bay and parts north are calling again.
P.S.S. Thanks for the continued inspiration.

  5. Joyeux anniversaire!
