My Self Portrait is now on public display at the Woods Hole Public Library. It’s on semi-permanent loan and will hang there indefinitely, except when it needs to be borrowed occasionally for other shows, etc. Since many people have asked where they can see this piece, I decided to find an appropriate place where it could be shared. The library seemed a fine match, with my work in children’s books and a childhood spent visiting this library.
I wrote about Self Portrait: A Personal History of Fashion on my first blog post last fall, which you can see here. 18″ x 24″ posters are available from my Etsy Shop.
The Woods Hole Public Library is located in Woods Hole, Massachusetts in the center of the village on Water Street. and the hours are pictured below. The Woods Hole Village Quilt, which I worked on and wrote about here, is on display as well. All are welcome to visit! I suggest that you call the library before making a trip, to make sure the piece is there, as I plan on removing it for short periods from time to time.
Salley, what an amazing piece of artwork! How generous of you to share it with everyone, through your library. Each little doll so wondrously dressed, and each one you (and those close to you). A lovely celebration of the circle of life.

That would definitely win the prize for the most creative and beautiful self-portrait ever! I love the circle theme and the soft colors of the background wool – life IS very colorful, isn’t it! I wish we could visit it – our best friends have recently moved up to Quincy, MA, not sure how close that is to Woods Hole but maybe when we go visit them we can take a peek!
Jan,
I hope you do come down from Quincy, which is an hour and a half (or less) away.
Oh my gosh! I think I saw myself in 1973! Amazing project, Sally. I love your stitches.
Great photo! Hope we will get up that way so I can see it soon! Very generous of you to share your work..both here…and there.
I love it! Beautiful colors, I wish I could see it personally…well, maybe, one day!
How cool. Seems like a good reason to visit Woods Hole! Really beautiful and fun.
Charming self-portrait. The library is the kind people wish to have in their town. In my beach town growing up, the closest library had no personal charm at all, except for the books inside it. How fun to claim this one as your own. Today is a fun day….the 1st 3 books ordered arrived this morning…..Hey Diddle Diddle, Wee Willie Winkie, and The Hollyhock Wall. Besides those, the following books are ordered: Mary Had a Little Lamb, Jack and Jill, Pocketful of Posies: A Treasure of Nursery Rhymes (preordered), The Way Home, Come to My Party, In the Heart, and You and Me. Have I missed any? Cate
Hi Cate,
You certainly are thorough in your shopping and I’m impressed that you got everything, even the hard-to-find out-of-print books. It’s good to know that they are still circulating in the used market. It looks like you will have the whole bibliography. I presume that you already have my how-to book, Felt Wee Folk. Thanks so much for your chatty comments!
Yes, I DO have your Felt Wee Folk book. That is what started me down this road. Thank you for letting me know that I have the whole bibliography. Now it will be easy to keep up with your output of books through your blog. Will be trying something out of your book when other projects are done.
This is such an amazing piece, Salley! I can’t even imagine how much time you spent making this. It is so beautiful and clever! What a darling place for it’s home!
Nancy
PS Salley,
I am on vacation in Alberta, Ca, right now, but will make contacts about your traveling exhibit when we return home.
