This blog is a year old today! See the first post here. To celebrate, I’m offering a giveaway (international, too) of my 2001 picture book, In the Heart. Please leave a comment by Nov. 21st and I will pick 3 people at random to each win a copy. The book is out-of-print, but some are still available at my local bookstore, Eight Cousins Books. Call them at 508-548-5548 to order autographed copies.
Happy Anniversary! Love your work! Cool blog.

how exciting! congratulations on your “blogday”! how sweet to have a giveaway….i’m in!
I remember when this came out. I was floored. Absolutely stunning. Takes my breath away.
I love your illustrations and have some of your books, but not that one. I hope you have more years of blogdom as I enjoy your posts.
so generous of you to give away one of your masterpieces! thanks for the opportunity. 😉
Weeeeee! Count me in!
By the way, do you knit those teeny tiny sweaters and things? Amazing.
Hi Rani, thanks for asking the question that everyone wonders! Any tiny clothes that look knit are cut out of cotton socks. I just updated the post with that info.
This looks like a lovely book. I love your style of illustration.
Congratulations! It is delightful to read your posts and follow your work.
Where did that year go? Congratulations not only for the blog but for your whole body of work.
That book is wonderful. If I were lucky enough to receive one, it would be for my little granddaughter (just found out my son and daughter-in-law are having a girl from a phone call this morning!) My copy that I bought is for my someday donation of books and dolls to a city children’s center so can’t give her my copy, but will certainly read all of your books to her and have a copy for her of “Pocketful of Posies”. What is also special is that the illustrations show many different types of children so she will identify with them more because she will be 1/2 Korean. It isn’t a book just full of blond, blue-eyed children. Congratulations on everything you have contributed to children’s literature and everyone’s delight!
Dear Salley, Congratulations on a wonderful first year of your blog! I always smile when your blog updates come to my inbox – it truly brightens my day. I love to read of your latest creative developments…more please 🙂
Salley, I have cousins in Falmouth and have received postcards of your wonderful work from them. I’ve been following your blog for about a month now ~ so much creative inspiration, thank you! And thanks for the opportunity to win one of your lovely books.
Susan
Happy Blog Birthday!
Your committment to us (your readers) while creating your incredible artwork is a gift. Thanks so much for giving us a glimpse of life both in and outside of your studio.
We are celebrating with you!
I am a Children’s Librarian and I LOVE your books – I found your craft book, Felt Wee Folk, years ago and have made the dolls with several groups. I have 2 teenage daughters who seem to be going in several directions, keeping me going in directions OTHER than the direction of making Wee Folks at home! Some day, but until then I love getting your blog! Pocketful of Posies is very popular here at my library! Thank you!
I would love to win a copy!

Hi Salley,
As I have said before, I have nearly all of your books, but “In the Heart” is the one that continues to elude me. I have wanted this book for quite some time, and I would be overjoyed to be chosen to give a home to “In the Heart.”
Thanks, Salley, and Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Great giveaway! I had never come across your books before (I’m childless…) but then I found your blog – wow! I have a little goddaughter who will definitely be receiving your books as gifts when she’s a bit older.

I have purchased Pocketful of Posies for my 3-year-old granddaughter for Christmas and would love to add another of your books to that gift. I just discovered your work during the past year – a gift in itself.
Thank you,
Thanks for sharing your creative process with all of us. Your art work, and the Felt Wee Folk book, have had a lasting impact on my own hand work.
Happy blogday! As always, your lovingly made work makes my heart skip a beat with joy. Every stitch shows you work from the heart.
Or is it ‘In the heart’ ?
Best wishes!
Love your work!
Tiny Sweaters: Have you seen Althea Crome’s Bugknits site? She actually knits those things and they are amazing!
Out of print? Oh I am so sorry – I have a copy of this book and love it. If I win, I’ll donate my copy to a needy area library (and selfishly keep the one from you).
Happy blog birthday! Reading your blog is always one of the bright spots in my day. And your work never fails to inspire me.
What a wonderful way to share your work…
Your books are perfect as the weather gets colder here in New England.
As comforting as a crackling fire and a cup of chamomile and mint tea from the summer garden.
Keep up the inspiring work!
i can’t believe it’s been a year. i would love to have this book for a sit down and read with grandmama with my 3 year old granddaughter.
Lovely! I saw your exhibit of Pocketful of Posies when it was in Falmouth and the detail of your work is just amazing. My son is 4 and he just love love loves the book, and it is even more special since he got to see your actual pieces as well.
I love seeing your work and learning how you do it! My kids would love this book!
I look forward to your blog every day-thought I would tell you a few years ago I went to Ireland to visit a good friend and her children and we spent the day making weefolks after spending the afternoon looking for toadstools and caps for our little people. Did have one question-are your people in the books made the same way with pipecleaners as your weefolk book? Do you knit their clothing? Will you ever teach a class? I live in CO and would love to travel for a class. Thanks again for sharing!!
Hi Shannon,
Some smaller characters in my books are made with pipe cleaners, but the larger figures are covered and padded card board. Instead of knitting their clothing, I cut up cotton socks. And, sorry, but I’m not teaching classes anymore. I want to spend my time creating new work!
Lovely! Thanks for the chance.
This looks great.
Visiting here is always inspiring and a huge delight!! Your books are pure Happiness! Happy Blog B-day :-))
Congratulations! I enjoy the blog very much and love your work.
Hi Salley: I was talking to a friend telling them about your work and how it took me back to my childhood days when my sister and I played with our small little dollies and made them clothes and houses and small furnishings. We referred to them as our “mousie” dolls. Imagination was everything and so necessary. I am so enjoying your books and would love a copy that you plan to give away. Thanks Lindy
I LOVE everything you do !!! It takes my breath away. Your creative mind is absolutely fascinating……….
Happy blogiversary! And thank you for lots of inspiration!
I’d love to win your book. I’ve been a fan for a long time 🙂 I’ve enjoyed reading your blog.

Hi Salley,
So many years ago while living in Providence R.I. (late 70’s early 80’s) I boought one of your velveteen cat pins with the metal ears and marveled at the precise perfection of handiwork. But also the wonderful spirit in your work. What a treat when you began your blog so we could peep at your charming studio and imagination. Thank you for the beauty you bring to the world.
Best Wishes,
Donna
Salley, I’m lucky because I have a copy of this book. I can’t remember where I got it, but I remember it was a special find because it is no longer in print. I hope to win another (maybe signed!) for my daughter, she is one of your younger fans. I’m going to get her to the Danforth soon, we both happy they are hanging 50 of the 51.
Darlene
Salley,
I am always delighted by your work. I finally bought one of your books and have a mermaid scene planned. Each work of yours is a visual delight. The attention to detail, even the smallest thing is astounding. I’m lucky I’ve never really grown up, so your books are perfect to fuel my childish soul.
Hello Sally ~ I have bought two of your books and would love to win a third! Your work is extraordinarily beautiful! Congratulations on your exhibition ~ I wish I lived closer!
