OK, here’s the situation— basically, my books, both Pocketful of Posies and Felt Wee Folk, are sold out. The publishers are out of stock, distributors have none and Amazon is out. They are both being re-printed, with shipments scheduled to arrive from mid to late January. This situation has only come up in the past week or two, so I think that most people were able to buy copies for Christmas. This is a new experience for me. After 20 years in the book business, I’m used to the opposite problem–getting a letter from the publisher saying my book is declared OOP (out of print) because there have not been enough sales to justify reprinting. So, I’m not complaining about reprints, it’s just that the timing is all off!
According to C&T Publishing, Michaels bought a large quantity of Felt Wee Folk, so they might have some. With their discount coupon, that can be a good deal! After 7 years and 50,000 copies sold, it’s nice to hear about people who are just discovering it. I know that I’m way overdue for another how-to book, but just can’t bring myself to take on such a big project right now. For one thing, I’m having too much fun with this blog!
If you’re trying to get a copy of Pocketful of Posies, some might still be in book stores scattered around the country. As I’ve mentioned before, my local book store, Eight Cousins stocked up ahead of time and has some signed copies available (508.548.5548).
If you already have my books, I hope that you can curl up in a comfy chair this cold January and enjoy them!
AMAZON UPDATE 1/9/11: Pocketful of Posies is now in stock, Felt Wee Folk is still unavailable. Update 11/13: Autographed copies are available in my Etsy Shop.
Yes, every Michael’s I’ve been to over the past month has had a stash of Wee Folk. I even spoke to a woman looking at the book with her daughter and told her that they’d love making the little people together, and she bought it.
Happy New Year!
I ordered a copy on Amazon a couple of weeks before Christmas, knowing the book was sold out, but figuring I’d take it whenever it arrived. Surprisingly, it got here on Christmas Eve! I guess Amazon found a spare copy in their warehouse. 🙂
I ordered Posies in May from with another book from Amazon. The other book has had a much delayed printing. They didn’t send Posies separately as they sometimes do.
Looks like I will be waiting one way or another! The Michael’s around here has Wee Folk. They don’t take coupons for books however. Fortunately, I have had Wee Folk since it came out. What is nice though, is that I can come back to this site to see photos while I am waiting.
Happy New Year!
What a wonderful problem for an author to have! Congratulations!
I don’t feel so bad now about the time I spent last week, trying to save my old copy from a fate worse than death – the trash. That will teach me to forget to put the lid on a project box around a senile cat.
Let’s just say that by the time I discovered my error, it was thoroughly soaked, smelly and fell apart. My family made fun of me as I carefully washed each page, sprayed each side with Frebreze, dried between paper towels and repeated daily for a week.
It worked! Granted, a 3 ring binder now houses the results in sheet protectors and I’ve learned a BIG lesson. I’ve also discovered that I prefer the way each page now lays flat.
PS – the cat survived.
Great story, Mary Ann! Ring binders are very handy and useful, too.
Congratulations! I am very happy for you that everyone is “discovering” your wonderful books. I bought Wee Felt Folk along with all of the makings (and painted the faces) for my granddaughters. They are having a blast making fairies and such.
I will be buying two copies of Pocketful of Posies. One for me, and one for my niece whose first baby is 7 months. I think it will be a gentle, comfortable book for her and her son. I just love reading your blog every day. And just yesterday I was thinking you needed to put out another how-to needlework book. So there is definite confirmation!! But I will let you do it when the time is right so it will be fun and not a burden. I am also glad that your Wee Felt Folk is doing so well. Why not? It too is a fantastic book. Wool is just so luscious to work with.
We call this a “high class problem!”
Congratulations and I look forward to the reprint.
What an excellent problem to have! I bought Pocketful of Posies for my daughters, and on Christmas day it was passed eagerly around all the adults, who thoroughly enjoyed admiring it. It’s a stunning work of art! In all the hubub of the holiday I haven’t had a chance to read it to the children yet, but I often find myself flipping through it to look at the pictures.
And I’m not surprised Wee Felt Folk is also selling well – it’s a wonderfully written how to book that I love (and my children love playing with the many resulting fairies!)
Hi, Salley! This is great! I’m so happy for you! I’m sending you an award. Do you mind if I use a photograph from the blog, giving you credit? love, Beth
Thanks Beth, sure you can use a photo.
